Blue
Blue, by Christopher Forsythe
Final Rating: 72%
Information: Based on the colors of the default Growl notification called Bubbles. This design makes me think of a bookshelf I once saw that was old and used, but was nice due to the fact that the librarian covered the shelves in a blue paper. This also preserved the shelves for many years.
Short Biography: I'm Chris, I'm project lead of Growl and a contributor for Adium and IMGames. Some of you know me as The_Tick.

Pretty nice overall, good shades of blue. I think the name label doesn't match though, so either take the texture out of it or add texture into the blue and you'll be set.

Blue. simple and easy on the eyes. I like the name labels in coloring and texture but my point of criticism would be the bevel. It looks like it's not properly attached to the shelf. Maybe make it the same bevel as the shelf? ...

re: David: I liked the original label better than anything I could come up with. I have some vision problems, so making something that wasn't flashy, and I could read at bigger font sizes with black font was important.

re: Daniel: that was part of the point. The old shelves at the library didn't have the name tags too attached, they were kinda clipped on.

This is a nice simple theme, but to be completely honest, the fact that this theme is in first place at the moment (smoking all other entries by several percent) makes me suspect something very fishy is going on.

I was just thinking that.
I know the site says voting is protected by cookies and IP tracking, but I don't see any evidence of cookies and IPs are easy to fake.
I suppose the only reliable voting method would be to use email addresses that require validating, but that seems a bit extreme for a contest.

Aha! It might have something to do with the theme's blue insect superhero creator putting a link in his forum signature that opens the contest page and automatically rates it as five stars.
Simple, yet clever.

Clever, but not cool.

I'm sure that everyone on all of 2 forums are clicking the sig (which I didn't notice was set to five star, the link is fixed) is causing this to be first place. *sigh*
I just grabbed the link that was in my browser after I hit five star on it. No biggy, it's fixed.

I'll let you off then, but only because you made the awesome Growl notification system!
;-)

Even though it was an accident, i feel that a dis-qualification should be in order
Posted by Chris Forsythe at November 25, 2004 08:59 PM
1) it was an accident
2) we still have a whole week
3) I've already fixed it
4) It's not like I got a whole bunch of points due to it. Phill could see how many clicks came through from macnn to that direct url and just remove those, if you wanted. That's about the extent of it. I really don't think anyone clicked on it, nobody has clicked on my growl banner sig since it's been on my sig there for a while.
5) Blue rocks :D

Guys, remember that the user voting is just weighted and the real decision comes down to the panel voting.
It's alright, Chris. You are still cool in my book.

Damn, leave him alone. It was an accident.
The theme is very minimalist, and fairly nice, although blue isn't exactly my color. The updated labels look interesting.
