Skulls
Skulls, by Johnny Larocque
Final Rating: 81%
Information: This theme was inspired by my vast horror DVD collection. I struggled with making the blood look realistic, so I went back to the drawing board and cut myself. Photographing that seemed to do the trick! Enjoy!
Short Bio: Johnny is a Canadian Cyberpunk. And proud of it!

Gross, but I love the textures. Make sure to download this and zoom it up.

Really nice shelving, I'm not sure why it's titled 'skulls' though, I don't see any skulls. ^_^

In my opinion this should be in the top 3. It's one of the few unique themes that were submitted, and it's executed very well. Bravo.

I keep getting a runtime error everytime I try to vote, I'm not sure if mine was counted.
For the record, it's definitely the most original one that I've seen, and has amazing texture!

Goes really well with the Disney DVDs!

This is awesome and very different. Thank you for being so brave. Also this is quite well done, especially the background texture. I somehow had to think of oldskool skateboards. Those always had skulls. ;o) The only thing that confuses me is the lighting on the attachment of the supports. Why is there light coming from the north-east? Also i would make the blood in the blood version less reddish and a bit darker. Makes it a bit more realistic. Like dried blood.

I absolutely adore this theme. The goth/punk-esque overtones set this piece uniquely and definitively apart from other themes. Nothing so succinctly says Disney, like thousands of tiny bloody skulls.

This theme is very distracting when trying to use the application itself. My eyes keep looking at the background instead of the content. It is different, but I don't think I like it much.
The shelves are harder to pick out in this theme than others, at a glance. If the shelves were lighter, it would make picking out which item is selected in the list perhaps easier.
The text is easy to read though at small sizes, which is very good. Overall if it were more usable I'd like the theme a lot more. I think this has the same problem as I have with the original wood grain, in that it's more distracting than it should be.
Good design idea though, from an artistic standpoint. I think you did well in presenting your idea.

From a practical standpoint, too distracting to be useable. From an artistic standpoint... whoah! Especially up close. I've got a bone to pick, though :-) -- This includes a "no blood" variant. I'm sure many of the other artists would have happily provided variants on their themes if the rules stated so. (I know I had to choose between colored and plain Christmas tree lights for mine.)

I think those last two guys are just easily distracted. As for including a "no blood" variant, I asked if I could include it and was told "I don't think so" and that I had to choose between them. I said go with the blood and didn't even know they included both until your post. Oh well. If the judges thought it was fair to include, then it is.

the skull textured wall is really great. I wish I could think of a really good use for it, though because its way too distracting IMO for a background.
