Twilight Aqua

Description: This is what one of my friends had to say about Twilight Aqua. "Smooth and deep, richly dark but luminescent, bright, glowing, serene and active at the same time. The blue is calm and beautiful, but the white glow is alive, without being overpowering. It looks kind of spacey, but not in that generic - 'ooh look at the neat spaceship control panel theme i made' - sort of way." That's a much more descriptive description than what I could think up. :).

Detailwise, the pinstripes denote an active window and the glow of the background windows is planned to be somewhat subdued. The menus are slightly transparent, although the selected portion is opaque, as you can see from the preview image. This theme has its roots in the fact that I love darker themes, but haven't found any that are sufficiently lively for me to use. The deep matte blue and the glowing widgets were the best way I could brighten a dark theme that's easy on the eyes.

The colors is calm but not that calm enough for everyday uses. The contrast probably should be lowered a bit.

I do like the glow and titlebar pinstripes because they help improve the overall look.

The best part of this mockup is the dark navy blue coloring, which is a very welcome change from completely black themes as of late. The glows are quite cool as well. However, the boxiness of the tabs and pop-up button don't seem to fit with the rest of the elements. This is an example of a design that could benefit from subtle gradients or even some gloss, however. The plainness of the inactive elements unfortunately draws me away from it. I too like the pinstripes. A very admirable effort at creating a dark(er) theme design without resorting to pure black! My eyes thank you, Joseph!

Wow, those highlights are way too bright.

I'll second the big ups for blue instead of the pervasive black we've been seeing. I love the glow here and can't wait to see some pulsing defaults in this theme. Big thumbs up. Lastly, I might eliminate all oval/round elements (except the titlebar widgets), since it's really a squarish theme.

I don't like this one at all, sorry. It's a consistent and a well made idea, I just don't like it.

I like it. It does need a little work, but I really like the glow. One of the first things to fix is making the pinstripes in the inactive window more subtle. I'd only use this theme at night, but I'd be very happy to do so. Rawhide during the day, Twilight Aqua at night?

Reminds me of the old Electric Monk K scheme: http://www.kaleidoscope.net/schemes/screensnapz/electricmonk.gif

Mmmm... Albie Wong, where are you?!

I would agree that there's far too much contrast with element edges, but you have to keep in mind that a normal window will not have all of these clickable things crammed together. I think that actual window content would go pretty well with these graphics.

I'm not a huge fan of the blue, but it's a unique and consistent look that was pulled off well.

Thanks for your feedback so far, everyone. I've got a few things I'd like to add. One is that I didn't include a non-selected window, so the aqua window in the back is not a background window. :/Secondly, this is my first attempt at a theme, and I appreciate your comments very much.

The brightness of the glows is admittedly pretty high, but the instance of so many clickable things on the screen really doesn't exist in real-time unless they're the focus of what you're trying to do, as in the Preference Panes, as Mr. Lewis said. That having been said, if this theme ever continues to fruition, I'll try to include two options--one with the brighter glow, and one with a more subdued glow.

Thanks again for all your input and I'm looking forward to more.

Now this is a really nice theme. Some of you don't seem to like the bright glow, but the glow is to a good extent what sets it apart from other dark themes - all the controls are completely visible and usable; even the inactive button caption is perfectly readable. Too many dark skins are so dark that you struggle to make out where the controls are or what shape and size they are, and this theme overcomes that very nicely. This is one theme I really hope gets to be made =)

Nice work!
