Mjolnir

Description: Design bases closely on the "Mjolnir armor" and other related technology form the popular game Halo. Attention to the original game design was the first concern under usability for a true Halo theme.

Biography: I am a 19 year-old full time graphic design college student. I will be getting my A.A.S. in web design this coming December. I've never owned anything but a Mac and am a die hard Mac evangelist to the end. I've been abscessed with changing my Mac's interface as long as I can remember and have been involved in the Mac theme community in some way or another since Jag.

Again, this goes near the top of the list for unique themes in my opinion. I simply LOVE the bright blue lights, they look quite brilliant on the dark black backgrounds. Generally, I love the theme. However, I'm not quite sure about the green metal. The highlighting or shadowing or something looks a bit off; the metal seems curved inward almost. I love the Apple menu item, and like the idea of large textures in the brushed metal window, though I think more zoomed out texture would be better.

Doesn't really look like Mjolnir armor to me, but hey. Dark regions seem to lack enough contrast for definition as well.

Wow. Mjolnir says very faithful ot the aesthics of the Master Chief's body armor in addition to nailing the gloss and LED light effects perfectly. However, I personally think that the overall theme is a little too dark. Granted, the Master Chief's armor isn't very bright to begin with, but a little extra brightness would help. One thing that I noticed is that the inactive state probably should be slightly darkened or something; the active pop-up button could easily be confused for an inactive element if it weren't for the end arrows.

It's pretty ugly in my opinion.

Very cool look. I can agree that it might be better to lighten it a tad, but as a dark theme it looks more user-friendly than most. Not to mention most dark themes seem to be done just for the sake of being dark and I don't get that impression here. Good luck to you, Thor would be proud.

Lighter, can do if I win top 6. It will be tweaked to the comments as much as I see fit if it gets made. Thanks for your comments.

This is one of my favorites, really nice!
The selected areas melt into the background somewhat, but I love the idea of a Masterchief theme and the lights are really cool.

Great work! I love the look this and while its a dark theme the colour chosen doen't mean its totally unusable. I hope this gets made!

Very nice. Good choice of colors, and the sparse blue lighting is sweet. I particularly like the scrollbar design, and really like the use of texture on the metal windows. That was the first thing I noticed.

My only suggestions would be a bit of prettying up the menus a bit, as they seem too flat compared to the rest of the theme. Even a simple gradient on the selection would help, if not a gloss effect. Oh, and maybe higher contrast on the progress bar. If you could work that cool blue glow look into it somehow, that would be excellent.

Pretty cool. I like the color scheme, and the interface elements, even though the "Active" button looks less active than the "Inactive" button. The Apple menu doesn't do it for me, though.

A little more contrast and yes!
I'd love to see some other variations on the blue bits, but otherwise, I like!

A little too dark for me to use regularly but cool anyway

Sorry, but I'm not a big fan. Something about glossy green turns me off, and lot of this seems too smooth. A bit of variation would help a lot, but this reminds me of the Lantern theme from Unsanity's contest too much. There are some things that look like they're trying to be cool, but they just don't do it for me.

That said, the indeterminate progress bar is excellent, as are the active and selected checkboxes and radio buttons (although they might be a tad too similar to be usable).

Posted by Telcontar at March 31, 2004 09:54 PM

Is it just me, or is the progress bar almost totally invisible? And the slider is also useless as you can't tell where the ends are. And what does the text on the inactive button say? (imagine you didn't know)

The general idea is nice, but some more thought needs to go into making it even remotely usable...

I'm guessing it varies from display to display, it's bright enough on the display I designed it on to be brighter than some of the existing dark themes. Any little thing like the progress bar would be easy to fix also.

Needs a bit of work, but has some awesome potential.

One of the few in this contest that might pull me away from TiSkin.
