Terra Cotta
Author: Colin Oettle
Final Score: 46%
Description: Inspired by both the existing theme "Milk" and the new zelda game for gamecube, my goal was to create a cell shaded terra cotta theme. I like the simple yet effective qualities of this form of shading, and thus I kept 3D and lighting effects to a minimum. The red and brown shades seen in the terra cotta form of the theme were my first choice because of their pleasant balance of brightness, allowing the theme to stay "out of your face," yet remain bright enough to stimulate the eyes. Though blues and darker shaded versions of this theme would be very possible to make, I prefer brown/red terracotta shades that maintain "happier" color tones on the mac.
Biography: A loyal mac user, I enjoy taking advantage of its superior audio/video capabilities and therefore involve myself in graphics projects as often as time allows. Having taken select graphics and design classes in school, this theme contest was a perfect and very enjoyable opportunity to keep practicing my design techniques.

Not my kind of theme but those who have been yearning for a Cel-Shaded style theme will be pushing for this one big time.

Some pretty sloppy masking around some of the controls... sweeping reflections would never work in OSX unfortunately. Neat concept, slightly sloppy execution.

It has a cell shaded look to it, no doubt. I see that the buttons shapes were kept from the theme template, which I think could have been avoided.. The jagged edges needs to be fixed also.
Technical issue: the lit window background would not work.
I think it has some quality to it, but it's just too sloppy.

I like the cel shaded concept, but this theme would need some work. I probably wouldn't end up using it though.

Bad case of jaggedies.

the jaggies are distracting but it is unique in its coloring. I think if it could be 'completed' it would be a choice for many people.

Agreed with Max and William on the technical issues, but I like this theme a lot. Cell shaded usually isn't a style I go for, but with a fitting desktop and some tweaking to clean up the elemtns I can see this as being very, very hot.

Great idea, I like the color scheme used here. Cell shaded is an idea I haven't seen anywhere before.
As far as the "jaggies", who cares? This contest should be about ideas, not how well the creater can use photoshop. That's why pro's are making the themes. :)

I think everyone cares about the "jaggies" because if a theme is going to be made, the mockup needs to be good. If a theme were created directly from this mockup, the quality of the whole theme wouldn't be too great.
But of course, ideas are a big part of themes. It just needs to be well executed. Who would want to use a theme with an awesome idea but poor artistry?

This is an interesting mockup, mainly because of the color choice. I don't like most of the main colors used too much on their own, but oddly enough, when they're combined in your mockup, I dig 'em.
The only real problems I see are that the titlebar widgets have fuzzy edges in your mockup, and, more importantly, I don't know of any way to realize the "swoop" on the aqua window background.
This mockup definitely catches the eye with its range of interesting color and the "swoop". It's also quite creative in that I haven't seen any other mockups with similar color choice. I find it surprisingly appealing and usable, but think it would have problems being realized into a working theme.

Though this theme didn't make the final cut in the voting, I truly hope that you're not dissuaded from trying to find someone to help you make this theme a reality. I still think it was the most unique of the bunch, no matter where it placed in the contest.
