Three
Author: Brian Konar
Final Score: 62%
Description: Clean and simple, emphasizes subtlety and minimalism. I decided to go for the blue mainly because grey seems to be a bit "cliche" at the moment. i love grey and think people choose it because it works well and isn't distracting. with this in mind i tried to keep color to a minimum.
Biography: I am twenty years old, studying multimedia & web design
at the Illinois Institute of Art, in Chicago.

Here's one of those hidden gems. Three was one of our first entries, and it caught my attention as it has a very soothing quality to it. If Three doesn't win a prize, I'm hoping it'll get picked up by an interested themer. Thanks for your entry Brian!

Three has a lot of things going for it. Very usable and very mellow. It is definitely not trying to grab your attention, but things like the subtle highlighting on radio buttons and checkmarks, and the strong consistency among tabs, push buttons, and popup buttons set it apart from the rest. Window widgets are most likely in the mouseover or clicked state in the preview, so don't be alarmed if they don't seem to completely fit the subtle look. The scroll bar is great too, and the slider is very well done.
All of that said, there is a gloss look that I'm not a huge fan of that sneaks its way in through the Apple menu icon, selected menu items, and the Aqua window titlebar. However, the gloss is subtle, and I have to say that this is one of the few mockups in this contest that I can see myself actually using over long periods of time as a fully developed theme.

Nice to see a departure from the glossy Aqua. Having said that, I do find this theme a little inconsistent... there's too much contrast between the sharp thin finder toolbar button markings, the thicker widget glyphs and the fuzzed out checkbox/radio glyphs and scroll arrows. I like the NEOS-like pucker-in pressed effect on the controls, but the shadows are gray as opposed to a deeper blue, giving them and the metal window bevel a slightly dirty look.

Interesting theme. I like the tone and buttons are quite nice. Not sure about the titlebar and titlebar buttons and the slider looks like a cd to me. I would imagine that it would loose some usability because of the lack of a contrasting color, I can imagine the scrollbar getting lost quite easily.
With some tweaks it could be a cool theme though.

For a clean theme, this theme is well done even though it's little too strong on emboss bevel. Bevel within a bevel (scrollbar) kinda throw this theme off. My suggestion would be going with building your own bevel manually instead of using layer effects. It'll give your theme an original look.
The colors is just perfect. Don't ever change it :)

The coloring is great. I like the teal; it's a very refreshing change from "Aqua Blue". I especially like the widget symbols and design and the Finder buttons. However, I simply think that the bevels are too much in some cases. The scroll bar is a good example of where I think Brian could've come up with something better. However, the overall softness of the design is very nice.

THis theme is OK, I'm not very drawn to it though.

This immediately reminds me of Eric Lob's "Blue" for Classic. Unobtrusive and clean, easy on the eyes with details that would make it a keeper if it is built.
nice

It makes me feel as though my display is blurry - I'd be blind in a day!
Nice colors though...

Reminds me somewhat of NEOS which I like

i really appreciate what everyone has said about the theme, and all the comments have been very helpful. i'm not exactly sure why i'm bothering on commenting, considering the contest is over, but o well.
i forgot about spring break, didn't plan ahead, and forgot to send my revised editions to Phil before I left. the revisions actually address many of the faults people have found with the theme, but that's irrelevant.
congratulations to the winners (some who i feel definitely deserved the win, some who i feel got more credit than they should have due to name association), their are many great entries here, and lots of idea inspiring creations. i tried to keep within the constraints of aqua, which unfortunately meant cutting out some of my favorite parts of the theme.
if anyone is interested in developing this theme or would be willing to teach me Theme Park, i'd definitely be interested in your help, or if you just want to see the revisions. Contact me at Bkonar@sbcglobal.net.
i'm excited to see Cobalt Blue developed, I think it definitely deserved a winning entry.
