Slime

Description: Slime is an attempt to create a cohesive theme that uses an element like slime define and accent the theme without totally dominating it. Behind the slime are clean, black, highlighted buttons. Generally the point was to make an interesting theme that worked with Aqua's boundaries yet remained usable.
Biography: I've been around the theme scene for a while (although sitting on the sidelines now, mainly watching the theme world), created one of the first complete themes, a platinum port, now maintained by max rudberg, as well as a few others (some aqua color variations, an attempt at a brushed metal os)... but nothing truly original (not including some personal mockups). I saw this contest as a chance to possibly have a design of my own turned into a theme.

This is one idea I requested, and I have to say that it came out differently than what I had visualized, but it's very well done. Personally, I was looking for more 3D, photo realistic slime, but the cartoony style works. The only thing I'm worried about is how well Aqua's limitations would swallow this... but that's for some more experienced vets to say. I can definitely see the progress bar working, like in Max's Aluminum Alloy. And it'd be great to see some fun, unique themes like this popping up :)

Slime reminds me of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That's a good thing.
It's pretty impressive how the essence of slime was created with so little room to do it, but unfortunately a lot of things don't seem to quite fit within Aqua's restrictions. For example, the scroll and progress bars would need to be modified, and I'm fairly certain that most of the green goop on top of metal windows would need to be removed. Considering the consistent graphic detail throughout, the metal window background also looks rather bare to me.
That said, these things can all be fixed with some tweaking, and in the end it really wouldn't look too different.

Quite cool, but I think the slime itself could use some work, I think it looked too beveled.
It's an ok theme.

I'm impressed with the subtle contrast and color choice but the slime bevel could use some work. The shapes and position of slime are pretty good.

Nice. The slime shapes are really well-done, especially the workaround for the push button fill areas and such. The coloring is right-on as well. However, I think that the slime would've looked better if it was iridescent or perhaps glossed. The bevelling is alright, but it suffers where the edges are further apart, such as the push button fill. Overall, the concept of slime was well-realized in this mockup, but the execution could have been a little bit better.

Original, but I would never use this theme. Good work on the slime effect though.

The slime is well-done as far as shape goes, but I'm not keen on the idea of bevelled slime. If it was defined a bit better, looked more organic, then okay, cool for slime-lovers.
Personally, I prefer things kept as clean as possible, something that applies to my life and computer habits, so it certainly isn't for me.

Remember this word: MOCKUP. You theming geniuses can fix the things that need fine-tuning!
This has amazing potential - I hope it gets there.

This mockup is pretty damned cool. Definitely not like any theme I've ever seen before.
The slime look is great - it's both realistic and interesting. The only possible issue I see with it is that some apps stretch textures and others tile them. In order to realize this, you'd probably have to come up with an tileable slime pattern.
The progress bars and scroll thumbs are very very cool. Really, the only thing I have to criticize is that the mockup might lose some cool-factor when it's realized into a theme.
This mockup definitely grabs one's attention right off the bat. It's not insanely usable, but it's well-enough defined that it could be used as one's regular theme. It's very very original, and I find it to be pretty aesthetically appealing. The only problem, as I said, is that there might be some issues realizing it into an actual theme.

I was offered a job as a hoodlum and I turned it down cold. A thief is
anybody who gets out and works for his living, like robbing a bank or
breaking into a place and stealing stuff, or kidnapping somebody. He really
gives some effort to it. A hoodlum is a pretty lousy sort of scum. He
works for gangsters and bumps guys off when they have been put on the spot.
Why, after I'd made my rep, some of the Chicago Syndicate wanted me to work
for them as a hood -- you know, handling a machine gun. They offered me
two hundred and fifty dollars a week and all the protection I needed. I
was on the lam at the time and not able to work at my regular line. But
I wouldn't consider it. "I'm a thief," I said. "I'm no lousy hoodlum."
